Amelia Wong
1936-2022
Amelia Wong, born on February 17, 1936, passed away on May 6, 2022 of lung disease. Amelia was the first of three children to David and Mabel Chinn born in Seattle. Amelia grew up in Seattle participating in community events by playing on softball and basketball teams. She learned to play the piano at an early age and was the Chinese Baptist Church pianist for many years, as well as being in the church choir. She was also one of the original members of the Seattle Chinese Community Drill team in the 1950’s.
Upon graduating from high school, she worked for Boeing, and as an adult she continued sporting activities by participating in golf and tennis. She also bowled in several bowling leagues, where she met her future husband, Willie Wong. After marrying Willie, they moved to Portland, however returned back to Seattle, where they settled and raised a family. Shortly after their return to Seattle, son, Darryl, was born in 1966, followed by daughter, Allyson, in 1970. Amelia worked for the Seattle School District for many years as an Administration Assistant and retired in 2001. In retirement she spent time with friends including continued friendships with former co-workers. She was a very thoughtful and caring person, always putting others before herself. She was ready to help others by volunteering at various charities, community organizations and supporting friends when they needed help.
Amelia is survived by her son, Darryl Wong, and daughter, Allyson Wong, both of Seattle, her brother, Elmer Chinn (Lafayette, CA), and sister, Alicia Mar (Seattle, WA). She is predeceased by her husband, Willie Wong. A private family service will be held. Donations can be made in her name to your favorite charity.
