Brett Oyanagi-Myers age 34, of Snohomish, WA passed away Thursday evening October 31, 2024, following an automobile accident.

Coming into the world a fighter, Brett was born March 28, 1990, in Seattle, WA, the son of Dwayne Myers and Pamela Oyanagi. He spent his early years in the Boulevard Park area of South Seattle until age 14 when his family moved to Bellevue, WA. Brett had a passion for sports and music. From age 8 to 18, he was at home or on the ice rink. He shared his love of drumming by leading the Drumline in the high school marching band and playing alongside friends in a rock band. Brett graduated from Newport High School in 2008.

Brett entered the United States Army in 2010 and served his country during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He earned the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal while serving in the First Brigade 25th Infantry Division. He married Catherine Williams on May 29, 2012, at the Seattle Court House. The couple lived in Fairbanks, AK and Denver, CO while Brett was in the military up until 2014. After Brett was discharged, they returned to the Seattle area to raise their family and eventually settled in Snohomish, WA. Most recently, Brett was attending Bellevue College to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, playing ice hockey, devoting countless hours to his two kids, and connecting with other veterans. Brett was known for his determination, strength and love for his family.

Brett is survived by his wife of 12 years, Catherine Oyanagi-Myers, and 2 children Kaiden Barrett Oyanagi (age 11) and Kennedy Colt Oyanagi (age 7). His father Dwayne Myers, mother Pamela Oyanagi, and brother Hector Myers-Oyanagi. We all love him, miss him and forever admire all he was and achieved.
