Burton D. Hunter passed away on July 9, 2025. He is survived by his first wife, Patricia Trujillo, daughters: Adzani Trujillo Hunter and Maya Trujillo Ringe, and grandchildren: Sage, Alessandra, Cooper, Rudy, and Reuben and great grandson, Jeshua. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary in 2017.
Burt was born in Lewiston, ID on November 1, 1941. He graduated from high school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho and obtained his BA from University of Idaho in 1963. Burt was honored to receive his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law in 1969 and enjoyed a 35-year career in International law.
He was most proud of his two daughters, who heard of or participated in his numerous international adventures. Burt's curiosity and wanderlust took him to at least 53 countries in all corners of the world over his 83 year life. Burt loved collecting ancient art, British racing cars, and Rolls Royces. At 71, he was written about in the New York Times for a road trip he took with Mary on Route 66 in a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow "shooting brake."
Burt was larger than life. Endearingly eccentric and frustratingly brilliant, he was known to correct art displays at museums, challenge authority, and break all the rules (unless he set the rule). He was not just an amazing father and husband, but also a wonderful friend, mentor, philosopher, prankster, problem solver, philanthropist, and so much more to anyone lucky to know him. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Mary on July 31st.
His love and legacy live on. In perpetuum, ave atque vale.
