Case Yukio Kiyonaga, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2023. He will be remembered for his brilliant, analytical mind, his quirky humor, his love of sports, and most of all for his kindness to all around him.
Case was born on August 19, 1985 in Seattle to Gary and Katie Kiyonaga, joining his brother Adam. At Lakeside School, he excelled at math and chess, participating in state and national championships. As a varsity tennis player he was Metro League Mixed Doubles champion. Case earned an economics degree at Pitzer College in California, then returned to Seattle. After various consulting engagements, Case landed his dream job as a game designer with Wizards of the Coast.
He loved games of all types - cards, board games, video, and of course, Magic: the Gathering. One of his favorite card games was Legends of the Five Rings for which he won multiple national and world championships. A sports enthusiast as well, he was a loyal Mariners and Seahawks fan. He went away for college, but he was raised right and he bled Husky purple and gold just like the rest of the family.
Case loved a good rib eye steak, obscure baseball statistics, family gatherings and hanging out playing cards with friends. Part of his enduring legacy will be the lives he saved through his donation of tissues and organs. We thank the Critical Care Unit staff and LifeCenter Northwest team at Overlake Hospital for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, LifeCenter Northwest or your favorite charity - we think he would approve.
