Florence (Eng) Spencer

Florence (Eng) Spencer passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025. Born on November 14, 1931 in Seattle, to Yippe and Lee Shee Eng. Florence, or Flo as she was lovingly known to her family and friends, was the second of eight children. Florence grew up in Canton Alley #3 and later, on Beacon Hill, with her family. She attended Bailey Gatzert Elementary, Washington Jr. High, and graduated from Franklin High School in 1950.

In 1951, Florence started working for the State of Washington, where she would work for 30 years in a variety of agencies, including the Department of Health, Vocational Rehab, Department of Mental Health Institutions, and the Department of Employment Security before retiring in 1981.

Florence married John T. Spencer on May 15, 1971, and the two moved into a beautiful condominium on Alki Beach in West Seattle where Florence continued to live up until the months before her passing. Florence and John loved to travel, including trips to the British Isles, Austria, and Germany.

Florence enjoyed long walks along Alki Beach, collecting coupons, and reading the newspaper from end to end every day. Flo will be lovingly remembered as a kind and caring sister, auntie, and great-aunt.

Florence is survived by her siblings Kathleen Chan, Pauline Eng, Ronald (Melinda) Eng, Gladys (Norman) Lee, Coreen Lee, stepson Jeffrey (Linda) Spencer, stepdaughter Andrea (Michael) Witmer, step grandson Stephen (Hailey) Spencer, step granddaughters Allison Casper and Amanda Emerick, step great grandson Everett Spencer, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Predeceased by husband John, parents Yippe & Lee Shee Eng, and sisters Eleanor Louie & Charlene Ko.

Graveside service will be held February 19, 2025, 11:00 am at Lakeview Cemetery, 1554 15th Avenue East, Seattle, Washington.
