Born in Hong Kong in 1941, Frances emigrated to the US to attend college. She met her future husband aboard the passenger ship on which they transited the Pacific, before they (for four years) went their separate ways. Told by an aunt that she could major in any subject she wanted – as long as it was a science or math – she earned degrees in Chemistry, a subject she would later teach. After brief stints in Philadelphia and Saint Paul, she lived in the Seattle area for nearly sixty years.
In addition to making a home for her husband and children, Frances also looked after her in-laws during their final decades. She taught at Holy Names Academy in Seattle, where she introduced computers into the curriculum, and at Highline College. After retiring, she traveled extensively with her husband. Closer to home, she enjoyed skiing and cycling with her friends into her late 70s. She was an exemplary (and self-taught) cook, a dry wit who did not mince her words, and a generous hostess who always welcomed friends warmly.
Frances is survived by her husband, her brother, her two sons & their wives, and her three grandchildren.
Frances did not want a service. Her family requests that (in lieu of flowers) donations be made in her name to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
