Jerry "Quock Wee" Woo

1929 — 2022

Jerry “Quock Wee” Woo was born in Nanchangcun village in Toisan, China Oct 14,1929 and passed peacefully at home in Seattle with his family by his side on September 9, 2022 just shy of his 93rd birthday.

Jerry was the second son of Eddie (Fow Toy) and Chin Sam Mo (Chin Shee) Woo and came to the US at the tender age of 8.  Most accounts of his early life described him as a holy terror which “earned” him trips away from home to extended family in California. But like many others of his generation, he settled down and took responsibility when it was time.  Jerry worked many hours to provide for his family. His professional work at the Boeing Company spanned 37+ years and was supplemented by bartending work at the Jade Pagoda and Moon Temple restaurants.  His younger years also included stints on transport ships, the Black Ball Ferry, the US Army, owning a pool hall, cannery work in Alaska, and many side hustles.  He liked bowling, fishing (including commercial salmon trolling at Neah Bay), camping trips with friends and family to Kalaloch, road trips along the west coast, cooking for family gatherings and making a favorite dish for one of the grandchildren, tinkering around the house, and periodically contributing to and withdrawing from the local casinos.

He enjoyed travel and visited places near and far including work in Iran, as well as trips to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Australia, and East Asia.   The highlight of his travels was a journey to China that he organized for the whole family which included a visit to the village where he was born.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Mary, his children and their spouses: Steven (Wendy) Woo, Jeri-Marie (Jeff) Honda; Pam (Stanley) Haruta; and Scott (Lillian) Woo.  He was the proud grandfather of Alison Haruta, Michael Haruta, Delanie Honda, Tara Woo, Lucas Woo, and Colten Woo. He is also survived by his sister Pauline Chinn and sisters in law Dee Woo; Marge Woo ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families   Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Allen and Albert and brother-in-law Wayne Chinn.

He was a dreamer and enjoyed his role as the patriarch of the family telling stories of all his adventures and passing on his hard-earned life lessons.  Descriptions of dad vary and alternately included words like:  funny, stubborn, genuine, maddening, charming, and tough at times.  However, they always included generous, hard-working, loving, and proud.  He was a good man, and he will be missed.  A celebration of life will be held at a future date, and the family asks that any remembrances be made to an organization or cause of the donor’s choice.
