Kathryn Yoshiko Suyama

1929 — 2022

Seattle

Kathryn Yoshiko Suyama, 93, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2022. She was born in Seattle, Washington to Frank and Katsuko Hashizume, the eldest of three children. At the age of 13, Kathy and her family were sent to an internment camp in Minidoka, Idaho for three years during WWII. In 1949, she married Noboru "Nobi" Suyama with whom she had six children. Together they enjoyed taking trips to Portland, Ocean Shores, Hood Canal (Potlatch), and Reno. Kathy was a member of Ayame Kai and a volunteer at Keiro Nursing Home. She worked at Prodata Systems and was an owner of City Produce Company in Seattle's Chinatown International District, which has been in business for almost 100 years. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and friend, beloved grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with family and friends. She was a great cook, enjoyed traveling, and loved playing the slots (which she usually won!). As someone who always had a friendly smile and made everyone feel welcome, she will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Nobi, sister Joanne Tomiko Yamamoto and brother Masao Hashizume. She is survived by her children, Patrick (Annie), Linda, Susan, Sharon (Rhys) Farren, Julie (Rick) Murakami, Steve (Betsy); 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

A private family service will be held. Donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements Entrusted to Emmick Family Funeral Home - Lake View  Seattle, Washington
