MAKOTO OTSU
March 26, 1926 – December 24, 2024
Makoto (Mak) Otsu passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024 at the age of 98. Mak was born in Steveston, British Columbia, Canada on March 26, 1926; the second oldest of seven children. During WWII, his family was relocated to the interior of British Columbia and later Mak would finish high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba and receive his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Manitoba. Mak worked as an engineer in Toronto, Ontario, where he met and married his wife, Eiko (Iwashita) on February 6, 1954. They later relocated to Renton, Washington and he worked at Boeing until his retirement in 1986. Mak enjoyed watching all sports, but mostly the Seattle Mariners. He loved to golf and was a member of Puget Sound Golf Club and Meridian Valley Country Club. In later years, he enjoyed trips to Muckleshoot casino and playing pool, bingo and poker with his friends at The Lakeshore retirement community. Mak was preceded in death by his wife, Eiko and his six siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Lorri (Richard) Munekiyo, his grandchildren, Amy (Rodney Nishimoto) Munekiyo and Erin (Mathieu) Prud’hon, three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A family inurnment service will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia at a later date.
