Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Taylor

August 1, 1945 — May 20, 2025

Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Taylor passed away peacefully on the morning of May 20, 2025, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 79. Born in Pasadena, California, to Reese Hale Taylor and Margaret Corrie Taylor, Maggie grew up in San Marino with her three older half-brothers—Waller, Reese Jr., and Frank—and her beloved younger brother, James Marshal (“JM”). Maggie’s early years were marked by excellence in both academics and athletics. She attended Mayfield Junior and Senior School in Pasadena and rose to national prominence as a junior tennis player. She won several regional titles and was part of a top-ranked doubles team. As a member of the Junior Wightman Cup team, she played alongside notable Southern California athletes such as Billie Jean King and Carole Caldwell. She began her college studies at Mills College and UCLA before completing her undergraduate degree at Hunter College in New York City. Maggie's daughter, Sarah, was born in 1969 in Pasadena, and her son, Jonah, followed in 1972 in New York City. In 1976, Maggie returned to California, settling in the Bay Area, where she earned a nursing degree from Samuel Merritt College, graduating first in her class. Her nursing career blossomed at Herrick Hospital in Berkeley, where she eventually managed the Medical/Surgical floor. Committed to lifelong learning, Maggie earned an MBA from John F. Kennedy University while working full-time. She later held leadership roles at RehabCare Group and a wound care start-up, earning a reputation as a visionary and compassionate healthcare executive. Maggie lived in many places throughout her life—including New York, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Carpinteria, and Seattle—making deep friendships along the way. Her passions included fly-fishing, travel, and spending time in coffee shops swapping stories with friends old and new. It was fly-fishing in Chile where Maggie met the love of her life, Bob Elliott, retired President of Household Finance Corporation. They married in 2008 and shared 18 joyful years together, traveling to 56 countries across six continents. Among their favorite memories were fly-fishing trips with grandchildren, island adventures in the Galápagos and Borneo, and warm family visits to Baltimore and beyond. In retirement, Maggie continued to give back as a volunteer at Harborview Medical Center and served on the board of the Friends of the Library in Seattle. After a massive stroke in 2021, Maggie faced her new challenges with grace, humor, and resilience. She remained active in the lives of her family and close friends, enjoying outings to the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle museums, the annual Tulip Festival, and neighborhood cafes. Maggie was known for her fierce loyalty, warmth, and generosity. She never missed a birthday or special occasion and was legendary for her thoughtful thank-you notes and meaningful gifts.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Francis Elliott; her loving children, Sarah Hale Cave and Jonah Montgomery Cave; daughter-in-law Shannon King Cave; stepchildren Kristen Lynn Kalisch, Thomas David Elliott, Michael Terner, and Rebecca Terner-Lentchner; and grandchildren Betsy Taylor Cave, James Montgomery Cave, Margrethe “Maggie” Ann Jensen, Milena Jennifer Kalisch, and Awen Elizabeth Elliott. A small private memorial service will be held on June 14 at Lakeview Cemetery in Seattle. For those who wish, flowers may be sent to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maggie’s name can be made to the American Heart Association’s 2025 Puget Sound Heart & Stroke Walk. Maggie will be dearly missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
