Patricia Anne Boroughs, 1944-2026
Patricia Anne Boroughs, died on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, after a short illness, in Shoreline, Wash. Pat was born on Jan. 16, 1944 in Chilliwack, B.C., Canada; the oldest of five children of Catherine and Robert Boroughs.
Pat grew up in Vancouver, B.C., before moving with her family to Redondo Beach, Wash and later Gregory Heights and Three Tree Point. She attended Gregory Heights and St. Francis of Assisi elementary schools and was a 1962 graduate of Holy Names Academy in Seattle.
She joined the Sisters of the Holy Names in 1962 in Marylhurst, Ore. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Fort Wright College in Spokane, Wash., and taught at Catholic elementary schools in Spokane, Everett and Richland, Wash. Her vocation as a sister continued for 40 years before transitioning to be an associate member of the Holy Names.
Pat earned a master’s degree from Loyola University of Chicago and moved to Lake View Terrace, Calif., where she worked as a campus minister at Cal-State Northridge’s Catholic Newman Center. The 1994 Northridge earthquake struck hours after Pat’s 50th birthday. In the weeks that followed, she helped many students and others find new housing.
For several years, Pat taught at Providence High School in Burbank, Calif. In addition to teaching, she loved to travel including trips to Ireland and around Europe, Japan, Mexico and Central America, and to her native Canada.
In 2023, Pat returned to the Seattle area where she reconnected with many friends and family and enjoyed hikes along the Burke-Gilman Trail. Pat was a life-long photographer and often took photos of nature along the trail. She was also a friend of the Seattle L’Arche community, through her involvement at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was loved by many for her smile, laugh and always young-at-heart attitude.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Robert Boroughs; her niece, Laura Lustig and grand-niece, Charlotte Boroughs. She is survived by her siblings: Ken (Hue Nhan) Boroughs, of Burien; Rev. Phil Boroughs, S.J., of Seattle; Shelagh (John) Lustig, of Seattle; and Mick Boroughs, of Sedro-Woolley, Wash. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Angelica (Eric) Callahan; Anthony (Gina) Vuong; Caitie Lustig; Robert (Niki) Boroughs; Samuel Boroughs and Elizabeth Boroughs; and grand nephews and niece, Anders and Arden Callahan and Ewan and Jack Boroughs.
Pat’s family would like to thank the medical staff at Shoreline Health & Rehabilitation Center, Swedish Hospital Seattle, and Swedish Hospital Edmonds who diligently cared for Pat during her illness.
Pat's Celebration of Life Mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 732 18th Ave. East, Seattle.
