Patricia Toshiko Tamiyasu was born on December 26, 1927 in Troutdale, OR. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to a farming community in Brooks, OR.
Toshi’s parents were Shigeto Tamiyasu and Kisayo Sadakuni Tamiyasu. She was one of 7 children Masao, Mikio, Pauline Haruye, Patricia Toshiko, Susie Suzuko (also known as Jinx), Ed and Lynn.
In 1942 during WWII, the Tamiyasu family was relocated and incarcerated in the Tule Lake Internment Camp in Tule Lake, CA. Then in 1943, they were moved to the Minidoka Internment Camp in Hunt, ID. Toshi graduated high school at the Hunt High School in the Minidoka Camp, class of 1945. After WWII, the Tamiyasu family settled in Portland, OR, where they operated the Earl Hotel until 1952, then a restaurant (the New Tokyo Restaurant) until 1964.
Toshi met Francis Masateru Fukuhara (Mas) on a blind date and six months later they were married in August 1953 at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland. They relocated to Seattle where they raised 4 children, Catherine, David, Teresa and Marci. Toshi worked for the Seattle School District as an administrative assistant at various schools. Mas’s job allowed Toshi the opportunity to travel to Japan and to many other countries in the world. Toshi and Mas were married for 63 years.
After retirement, Toshi and Mas discovered the sport of golf and became avid golfers. They spent the next 3 decades playing golf locally and traveling around the country golfing with friends and members of the Hachi Golf Club.
Toshi was preceded in death by her husband Mas, parents Shigeto and Kisayo Tamiyasu, her brothers Masao and Miki, her sisters Pauline and Jinx, and her youngest daughter Marci. She is survived by her brother Ed and sister Lynn, her children Cathy (Mark), David (Sandra), and Teresa (Jay), as well as all her 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and extended Tamiyasu Family.
Many thanks to Paya Thomas and her crew at Merrill Gardens (Renton) and the medical staff at Kaiser.
We all love you Toshi, you are one of a kind and we will always remember your amazing life.
