Penny Louise Scott, 79 years old, of Lake Tapps passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2025. Penny was born on September 16th, 1946, to Marilyn Potts and Raymond Engel, in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from Blanchet high school in 1964. She received her BA in Education from the University of Washington.

Penny met the love of her life, Bob, at The Warehouse Dance club on Eastlake in Seattle. They met and fell in love in Seattle, but both were already planning to relocate to Southern California. They continued their courtship by traveling between Los Angeles and San Diego to see each other. They were married in Seattle and ultimately moved home after several years in California.

Before welcoming children of their own, Penny and her beloved husband Bob opened their hearts and moved back into Penny’s family home. Together, they lovingly raised her youngest siblings—Stephanie, Dale, and Diane. Penny became more than just a sister; she was a guardian, mentor, and a guiding light for her siblings. With quiet strength and unwavering devotion, Penny and Bob instilled in those around them the most important values: kindness, resilience, responsibility, and commitment. Penny believed deeply in each sibling’s potential, guiding them with encouragement and support. Through her selfless actions, she helped launch them into adulthood, ensuring that each one had the opportunity to attend college and pursue a life they could be proud of.

Penny and Bob eventually moved out of Seattle, with Diane and Dale in tow, and built their family home on Lake Tapps and raised their 3 children: Jeff, Jennifer, and Julie. Penny was an exceptionally caring and loving mother.

Penny was a Kindergarten teacher at Lake Tapps elementary for 25 years, and was truly well-suited to caring for small children and teaching 5-year-olds. Her empathy and warmth, as well as unrelenting patience was ideal for kindergarten. She paused her career for many years to be home when raising her own 3 kids, resuming once they were older and in school.

Penny embraced every moment with joy, warmth, and an open heart. A true lover of sunshine and water, she found her happiest moments at the lake, floating, swimming and entertaining family and friends. Her love for trips to the beach with her children and grandchildren created cherished memories for all, and she treasured escapes to San Diego with her dear friends.

Music held a special place in Penny’s life, and she was often the first to start dancing—at concerts, local performances, or simply in the kitchen. Her love of music was infectious, filling gatherings with energy and laughter. Every get-together felt like a celebration in her presence, as her spirit lifted others and made ordinary moments extraordinary.

Penny’s competitive streak shone through at the card table, where she was a fierce opponent and wickedly good at word games. Game nights were a favorite, with Penny often outwitting others and sharing her signature sly smile. She was the glue that held her family and friends together, always remembering birthdays, organizing gatherings, and nurturing connections across distances and time.

Travel was another joy for Penny, especially to warm and sunny destinations where she could bask in the sun and appreciate the beauty around her. Whether she was dancing under the stars, sharing stories around a bonfire, or watching her grandchildren laugh by the lake, Penny brought radiance and love to every experience. Her spirit was vibrant, her love immeasurable, and her presence truly irreplaceable.

Penny is survived by: Jeff (Alison) Scott, Seattle Washington, Jennifer (George) Czarnowkski, Covington Washington, Julie (Shane) McBane, Lake Tapps Washington, 7 grandchildren, Jack, Hannah, Jace, Ella, Brody, Josephine and Charlotte.

Penny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, “nana”, sister and friend, and will be greatly missed.
