Ronald H Hanson

On January 18th 2023, Ronald H. Hanson of Mercer Island died at the age of 87 at his home. Ron was born to Harold and Josephine Hanson in Longview, WA in 1936. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Washington in 1959. Ron began his career at the University of Washington Pathology Department in 1965 and spent 43 years there until retiring in 2008. He married Loretta in 1968 and together raised two daughters Aileen and Lisa.

Following his father’s lead, Ron and his father built his home on Mercer Island which was completed in 1972. Ron was very active and enjoyed hiking, skiing, tennis, golf, and gardening. He also studied classical piano as a child and enjoyed playing and listening to jazz music. Since he studied chemistry, he was an excellent cook as well. After retirement Ron was able to travel and enjoyed trips to Asia and Europe with Switzerland being his favorite.

Ron is survived by his wife Loretta, his daughters Aileen (Ponce) and Lisa, and his grandsons Logan and Nathan.
