Feb. 27, 1947 - Feb. 6, 2024
Tate died of brain cancer on February 6th with family by his side. Tate was born in Ann Arbor, MI. to Dr. J. Tate and Beth Mason, where Dr. Mason II was completing his residency. Tate was the third of five children. The family returned to Seattle when he was two, where he attended McGilvra Elementary school through 8th grade, and continued his high school education at Shawnigan Lake in BC, Canada. It was there he grew his love of crew racing, which he pursued through college at the University of Washington. Also while at UW, he was a proud member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. His many passions included camping, birding, fly fishing, and his walking group. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane, their three children, Gena (Marko), Tate (Beth), Kathleen, eight grandchildren, and his siblings. His was a life well-lived. Although he will be sorely missed, we are so grateful that he was such a strong and vibrant presence in our lives.
Rest In Peace, Opa.
We will celebrate his life in March. For details, please reach out to the family. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Tate's memory to the World Center for Birds of Prey, www.peregrinefund.org/mason
