Christine Edlund

July 23, 1933 - May 16, 2026

Born in Seattle, July 23, 1933, to Helen Weber and Leo Gillespie, Christine Redel Edlund lived in Seattle and the surrounding area her entire life. She passed away May 16, 2026 at the age of 92.

Having lost her mother in infancy, she was raised in Ballard by her aunt and namesake Christine Weber Antonson and her uncle John Antonson. She was blessed with a large extended family who were always there for her.

Christine married her first husband Kenneth Kjorsvik shortly before she graduated from Ballard High School in 1951. They had three girls, Connie, Diane, and Lori in the early 1950's. She later married her second spouse, James Redel, and had two sons James and John, born in the 1960's. Once grown, her five children became a prominent source of pride for her. She viewed those with fewer children as misfortunate.

As a result of being an avid reader well into her 90s, her knowledge of political and cultural trends far exceeded that of her peers. A tough, fiercely independent woman with strongly held opinions, she was not shy in sharing her views without concern for the audience, time or place.

Christine is survived by her 5 children; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The family is grateful for her medical providers, Seattle Housing and Lifelong. We are especially thankful for Helen, a caregiver who made it possible for her to remain in her own home this past year. It gave her great comfort that her sons James and John could be called upon daily as well to solve whatever problems she kept on her list.

Graveside services were held at Calvary Cemetery where she was buried near her Weber grand-parents and mother Helen Weber Gillespie.
